Labor of Love
by Nancy L. Meek ©09-10-02

Peace and Freedom are not easily born
'Tis a Labor of Love of the Highest Degree
On Wings from Above, we embrace the Morn,
We are the Eagle.....Born to Be Free.

Behind the scenes, our Soldiers stand
Ready to answer Our Nation's Call
To endure the Labor, whatever Command
To Stay the Course, Giving their All.

Something over the horizon draws their eye
Something larger than themselves, it seems
Perhaps they see our wings in a peaceful sky
An Embryonic Vision, still cloistered in dreams.

We do not rise each day, trying to pretend
The worst has already come, for sadly we know
Our Fight for Peace is not nearly at an end...
Our enemies will strike another vicious blow!

But we are a People Stronger....with Morals Greater
In the face of danger, forever Standing Tough
Not only for our own, but for our neighbors
Who resound our cry, "We have had enough!"

09-11-01 Memorial

From beginning to end, our Soldiers will fight
Come hell or high water, through fire or flood
Protecting "Home-Sweet-Home" with Awesome Might
Like a Mother Eagle......It's in our blood!

We will not rest until the Victory is Ours
'Though the Labor be painful and long
We'll brace for the worst in those final hours
"America the Beautiful" forever Strong!

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea.

O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America! May God thy gold refine,
Till all success be nobleness,
And ev'ry gain divine.

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees, beyond the years,
Thine alabaster cities gleam__
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

If God is among us, who can be against US
In this holiest of wars with determined men
The terrorists have yet to see the end of US
We'll fight to the death, Peace and Freedom to Win!

Quakes, drought, famine, pestilence and flood
Wars and rumors of wars are everywhere
Exhausted from seeing Innocent Blood...
We scream like the Eagle soaring up there

Multi-service medics quickly read injury data card and immediately start treatment of this soldier suffering massive head and chest wounds.

Someone wrote 'America is still free. We will never accept terrorism' on the back of the bulletin board at a spontaneous memorial that sprang up near the Pentagon to honor those killed in the terrorist attack there Sept. 11, 2001. Photo by Rudi Williams.
